Mark Degner

President and Chief Executive Officer


Mark H. Degner joined Safeguard Self Storage in May 2017 as President and Chief Executive Officer. With 30 years of real estate experience, he brings expertise to both the strategic and practical aspects of the business. In his role Mark is responsible for setting Safeguard’s strategic priorities, while guiding the company’s tactical direction and financial success. His mission is to build on Safeguard’s 27-year history as an innovator in the industry and to establish the company as the undisputed leader in terms of product quality, service and value.

Mark has both real estate operating company and investment management experience.  In his career he has been involved in almost all real estate asset classes and has been responsible for over $10 billion in real estate transactions. Prior to his current role, Mark was previously Chief Investment Officer of Southern Land Company.  He has also held executive leadership positions at Partners Group and Liquid Realty Partners.  Earlier in his career Mark held acquisitions and portfolio management positions at Morgan Stanley Real Estate, Prologis and Trizec Hahn.


Mark received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a MBA in Real Estate from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.
